Shedding Light by Adding a Pendant

Last weekend team Patz did a little home improvement.  I gutted and redid our kitchen a few years ago but when it was finished it wasn’t complete.  The intention was always to have some direct light over the sink and I designed it so a pendant would fit right in.  Unfortunately we never found anything we liked so dishes were washed by the adequate light spilled over from the under cabinet lighting.

A few weeks ago I picked up the little red guy pictured below at Lowe’s.  It isn’t a perfect design but it is nice and relatively cheap.  Then it was just a matter of waiting until my subcontractor was available to help.  Now there is light aplenty in the sink.

  1. From designing these things for years, I can tell you that it *might* just support his static weight for a while. If it used a downrod instead of SVT cord I’d bet on it, as crazy as that sounds. His dynamic weight is the monkey wrench. Let’s face it, no kid that hangs from a ceiling fixture could resist the temptation to swing and swing. That would literally be his downfall.
